Binge eating is the fastest way to lose the physique you’ve worked so hard for.
Not only is it bad for your body, but it will also absolutely kill your focus and drive to stay athletic and aesthetic.
There are several tactics you can deploy though.
If you diligently practice these tips you should never feel hungry, let alone want to binge eat.
You see, the problem with binge eating, and why it’s not necessarily a good thing, is that when you binge you tend to reach for unhealthy foods.
Unless you’re practicing intermittent fasting (IF), and you have your diet plan laid out, binge eating is the antithesis of health and fitness.
Usually when you binge eat you reach for whatever is in front of you at the moment.
This could mean donuts, fried foods, cheeseburgers, ice cream, or any other crap food that sounds amazing when you’re hungry.
Tell me this: How many times have you been absolutely starving and had a craving for a salad? or a piece of fruit? Probably never.
When we let ourselves get to that level of hunger, we crave bad foods, calorie dense foods that offer little nutritional value, not only because these are convenience foods and they’re found everywhere, but your body wants you to get some damn calories, and what better way than to load up on calorie dense junk!
Now, I’ve not been immune to this myself. When I let myself get really hungry, I find myself craving crap. And it’s even worse when you are constantly confronted (which we all are) by this type of food.
So what do we do about this? It’s simple, but requires discipline and hard work.
Let’s get into it.
Eat 5-6 small, protein packed meals a day.
Keeping yourself full entails eating early and often.
Skipping meals makes you hungry, making bad decisions imminent.
Eating good foods often keeps a constant flow of nutrients pulsing through your body.
Aim for every 2-4 hours, depending on how big the meal was.
If this sounds too difficult, it’s not.
I’ve been doing it for a good seven years, all through university and even when I was working two jobs.
Remember: Proper preparation prevents piss poor performance.
Prepare your meals beforehand so you are ready to go. If you need to, make a few of your meals bars or shakes, these can work in a pinch when you are running out of time.
Stay prepared, stay full, stay lean.
Eat foods with a lot of fiber.
Foods with lots of fiber help you feel fuller longer.
Fiber fills you up and slows down the digestive process so food moves through you slower, keeping you feeling full.
It also keeps your blood sugar levels in check and keeps your digestive system running smoothly.
Allow yourself something sugary or salty every once in a while.
The key word here is every once and a while.
What we need to do is calibrate our taste buds from the onslaught of sugar and salt we eat, which just leads to eating more and more sugar and salt.
Eat plain and clean, but allow yourself to cheat every once and a while.
Don’t buy the offending foods, if it’s not there, you won’t eat it.
This is a big one for me, if there is anything sweet laying around, you can bet I will eat it.
Therefore if I don’t buy it, I don’t eat it.
Avoid it at the source: at the store.
Drink lots of water throughout the day.
Drinking lots of water keeps you hydrated, and keeps you from being as hungry as you would be.
Dehydration can mask itself as hunger, so stay stocked up on water and sip it throughout the day.
Don’t drink your calories, eating them keeps you fuller, longer.
Drinking your calories is easy, eating them is harder.
You can easily drink 400 calories from a large soft drink and not satiate your hunger at all.
This is why drinking your calories is so dangerous, it provides lots of calories for little nourishment, the exact opposite of what fruits and veggies provide.
Just drink water.
note: this doesn’t apply to protein shakes
Surround yourself with people who have the same goal as you.
If you’re surrounded by people with the same successful mindset and goals as you, you will have a much easier time reaching your goals and being successful.
If you surround yourself with people who surround themselves with fast food, you’re destined for failure.
Like attracts like.
Rich people hang out with other rich people.
Fit people hang out with other fit people.
Choose your circle wisely.
Learn some disciplinary techniques that will make it easier for you to say no.
Keep your desire for a better physique and healthier life stronger than any food.
Think of food as fuel to drive you in life.
Look in the mirror, find the physique you want and look at it every day, and remind yourself why you started your fitness journey.
Use these and other tactics to remind yourself that long term benefit (being shredded) trumps short term pleasures (eating donuts).
The key to the physique of your dreams and the performance that comes with it comes down to discipline and consistency.
Nobody ever got anything worth having in life without those two words.
Now it’s up to you to choose what it’s going to be.
Will you reach for the short term pleasure?
Or will you reach your goals and become who you want to be?
